MOPS: Economic and Legal Aspects of Mobile Open Computing |

On the 27 April 2009, the enthusiast of mobile computing will meet in BRAMA Laboratory to discuss the economic and legal aspects of open mobile computing. The event will be specifically dedicated to studying the issues of open source-based business models, the nature of licensing system of open source software and its impact on business-making models. We will also discuss entrepreneurial perspectives in the field of FLOSS.
MOPS is an event framework aiming to promote and examine the field of mobile platforms and computing. It was formulated during the first Polish-Norwegian seminar and workshop on mobile open platforms organised by BRAMA Laboratory in cooperation with SINTEF in September 2008. The first MOPS edition enabled to develop a research cooperation roadmap for the partnership of BRAMA and SINTEF, which will be followed and updated during future MOPS events.
The event will be composed of 3 main blocks:
- Seminar: to introduce a not-yet-popular view on FLOSS development as an activity of commercial value, consider its legal aspects and licensing system, discuss the future of open hardware, identify the needs of a mobile user as well as determine prerequisites and usability of FLOSS in education.
- Workshop: to present and promote both Norwegian and Polish FLOSS projects to strengthen the FLOSS community. This part aims also to create research and business opportunities for the participants and presenters.
- Networking meeting: a happy-hours format targeted at free exchange of thoughts on the issues covered by the event.
